Research Assistant in Infrastructure Asset Management

University of Cambridge has an opening postdoctoral scholar position. This position is closed on December 12, 2019.

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on developing data-centric techniques for improving the way infrastructure assets and systems are managed throughout their life. This research is funded by the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC) based in the Department of Engineering.

The researcher will be based in the Asset Management Group at the Institute for Manufacturing. The researcher’s responsibilities will include: developing predictive whole-life performance models for critical infrastructure assets and systems and analysing the value of sensing technologies in improving asset operation and maintenance. In particular, the researcher will interact and engage with our industrial partners and other key stakeholders in defining the problem(s), identifying possible paths for solution development and developing decision-support tools. The researcher will be expected to produce high-quality publications for presentation at academic and industrial conferences in addition to the top journals in the field.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge Cambridgeshire, UK.

Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Engineering, Data Science, or relevant discipline. The researchers’ expertise includes infrastructure asset management and whole-life performance analysis, reliability engineering, predictive modelling, and optimisation. Appreciation and knowledge in data management is desirable. The post holder will be expected to have excellent communications and writing skills, and experience in working with industrial partners.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 23 June 2021 in the first instance.
