Research Assistant Psychology at University of Surrey

FTE:80% (4 days per week)

Work place: The job will be split across two sites. The first being the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey GU2 7XH. The second being Whiteley Village, Walton on Thames, Surrey, KT12 4EH. Supervisory team: Dr Kimberley Smith, Professor Andy King and Dr Alison Armstrong We are excited to advertise a position for a graduate research assistant who will be responsible for carrying out a mixed-methods project that will allow us to develop an in-depth appreciation of the psychosocial impact of transitions to, and within, retirement communities.

Funded by the Pargiter Trust, this project will investigate how moving to a retirement village impacts on individuals' sense of belonging, their social connections and psychological wellbeing. We will also examine how different events that happen to people within a retirement community impact on their wellbeing. We will investigate whether there are particular psychological and social traits that help people to cope with these events. The overarching goal from this project is to create an explanatory framework that could help us better understand this migrations to, and life events within a retirement community.

We are looking for an individual with a real passion for conducting research with older adults and previous experience working with this population. You will need to have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. You should be able to work independently across two sites in Surrey (University of Surrey and Whiteley Village).

You should have a primary degree (MSc preferable, but will consider exceptional candidates with a BSc) which could be in Anthropology, Behavioural Sciences, Psychology, or Sociology. Knowledge about qualitative research methods and experience with systematic reviews would be an advantage. Applications from qualified residents of any country would be considered on their merits and according to current legislation.
