PhD Scholarship in Mathematical Modelling of Organogenesis

ETH Zurich is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a new opening PhD position in computational biology. Applications will be evaluated immediately.

ETH Zurich is a major research university, offering an excellent environment for innovative and collaborative research across disciplines. The Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of ETH Zurich is located in Basel, a European hotspot for biomedical research, in close proximity of the University of Basel, the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research and the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. new position. The Computational Biology (CoBi) Group focuses on image-based modelling and simulation of developmental processes with applications in bioengineering. The PhD student will focus on using mathematical modeling based on quantitative data to uncover fundamental mechanism in development – the detailed project will be defined together with the student to match his/her interests.

Candidates should hold a Master degree in Bioengineering / Physics / Applied Mathematics or related disciplines and have an interest in mathematical modelling of biological systems. Familiarity with differential equations, chemical reaction kinetics, principles of mechanics and fluid dynamics, as well as a programming language are essential for this position. Prior experience with biological systems is preferred, but the biological background can also be learned on the project.
