PhD Scholarship in Law at University of Technology Sydney

University of Technology Sydney is pleased to invite applicants to apply for a new opening PhD position. Potential candidates should apply before September 30, 2019.

UTS is offering a scholarship for a candidate interested in Indigenous issues in penology, especially the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in the criminal justice system. The candidate will be part of an Australian Research Council Linkage Project team that will undertake a trial of Indigenous-curated sentencing reports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in Koori and Murri courts. The research-in-action approach will be supported by case work and an Indigenous-led evaluative model. Data will be collected through court observation, interviews and the reports themselves.

- Indigenous women's needs in the criminal justice system

- Self-determining support mechanisms for Indigenous women in the criminal justice system

- Evaluation models for the impact of self-determined programs and initiatives for Indigenous women in the criminal justice system

- Barriers and enablers to Indigenous women's needs being met in the criminal justice system and post-criminal justice interventions

The successful applicant will be given research supervision, support and training, and will be expected to be an active member of the ARC Linkage Project team.

Applicants for the scholarship must also apply and be admitted to the PhD degree at UTS. Deadline 30 September 2019.
