PhD Scholarship in Biomedical Engineering of Biomarkers for Image-guided Surgery

Applicants are invited to apply for a PhD position in molecular imaging at Technical University of Denmark, Denmark. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before October 01, 2019.

A PhD studentship in biomedical engineering of Biomarkers for Image-Guided Surgery is available in the Colloids & Biological interface group (CBIO) at DTU Health Technology.

The section for Biotherapeutic Engineering and Drug Targeting invites applications for a fully funded 3-year PhD positions in biomedical engineering. Diagnostic imaging technologies such as PET/SPECT/CT and MRI have undergone tremendous development in terms of sensitivity and accuracy, and solid malignancies are identified at increasingly smaller sizes and at earlier stages. However, bridging diagnostic imaging into these surgical procedures has identified unmet needs for biomaterial marker technologies. The current project entails design and testing of biomaterials with multimodal imaging properties enabling the precision of diagnostic imaging in surgical procedures. In particular, near infrared fluorescence, ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT) imaging are considered important aspects of the marker solution. The CBIO group is a multidisciplinary research environment covering the interface between the life sciences and physical sciences with particular emphasis on biomaterials and biological interfaces. The CBIO group has a strong focus on translational research bringing projects from the early stage of material synthesis to formulation and further into preclinical testing. To this end, the current project has received great interest from local industry and hospitals. The fully funded 3-year PhD student will pursue the following interdisciplinary projects: The CBIO group has a strong collaboration with the preclinical molecular imaging group (CMI), Dept. of Biomedical Sciences and the department of diagnostic imaging Dept. of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, Copenhagen University.

The candidates will work as part of a team of scientists within the CBIO group and external collaborators. Willingness to work in an international environment is essential.

Candidates may apply prior to obtaining their master’s degree but cannot begin before having received it.
Deadline: October 01, 2019
