Postdoctoral Position on Synthesis of Materials for Energy Applications

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position in sustainable energy to join Chalmers University of Technology. The funds for this position are available for two years. Applications should be sent before September 10, 2019.

Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is the largest department at Chalmers with research ranging from the most fundamental level to a level close to application in industry and society. The research activities reach from DNA-research and biomaterials to high temperature corrosion, catalysis and recycling. The Department is also heavily committed to teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, as well as postgraduate level in these areas.

Health, natural resources, sustainable energy and materials are some of our lead words and our vision is "Through curiosity and knowledge towards a sustainable world". We have approximately 300 employees, divided into four research and one administrative division. We are situated at campus Johanneberg in the middle of Gothenburg. Information about the research/the project/

The research group “Polymer Chemistry and Electronics” leading by Prof. Ergang Wang at the Department of Chemistry and Chemcial Engineering has a focus on the synthesis and characterization of conjugated materials including polymers, small molecules and Graphene-like materials for applications in organic solar cells, organic field effect transistors (OFETs), organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and supercapacitors. We have well equipped labs for synthesis and materials characterizations.

The project is mainly about synthesis of organic materials and 2D materials, and characterization and device fabrications such as organic solar cells and supercapacitors. We have large freedom in this project as long as you can propose good scientific ideas. Therefore, a good research proposal in the personal letter is highly important in our evaluation.

Major responsibilities

Your major responsibility as a postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes supervising master’s and/or PhD students to a certain extent (but no teaching). Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing in English.

Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1). The position will start from the 1th of November.

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree or equivalent in Chemistry or Material Science or a relevant field. You are expected to demonstrate good potential within research and education. Candidates with experience in the following fields are highly appreciated: organic photovoltaics, photodetectors, organic synthesis, supercapacitors, light-emitting diodes, graphene science.

For this position we are looking for a highly motivated person with a problem solving/creative attitude and one who finds pleasure in collaboration with others. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish on undergraduate level after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
