Postdoc in Cell-based Bioprocess and Computational Modeling

Quantitative Modelling of Cell Metabolism (QMCM) group headed by Professor Lars Keld Nielsen at DTU, Copenhagen, is looking for Chemical Engineer with experience mammalian cells bioprocesses and metabolic modeling, for a postdoc position.

Group specializes in creating complex composite mechanistic / data-driven models of cellular metabolism. Such accurate and interpretable models can be used to analyze response to drugs, search for a new pharmaceutical targets or explore basic biology.

Quantitative Modelling of Cell Metabolism (QMCM) is a new section at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CfB), headed by Professor Lars Keld Nielsen and supported by a seven year Novo Nordisk Foundation Laureate Research Grant. In QMCM, we focus on developing mathematical models to explore and explain the molecular basis for homeostasis - the self-regulating processes evolved to maintain metabolic equilibrium in organisms.

This is an opportunity for a Chemical Engineer with expertise in mammalian cells bioprocesses to join an interdisciplinary team working on biological network modelling, computer science and algorithmics, statistical computation and bioinformatics, to solve the fundamental challenge of formulating and fitting very large non-linear models.

Responsibilities and tasks

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for providing high-throughput quantitative multi-omic data to biological researchers and performing primary metabolic computational modeling analyses. The candidate is expected to have extensive experience in mammalian cell culture laboratory and will closely collaborate with other groups, both within the center and externally. Mammalian cell-based bioprocess optimization and automatation in different strategies (batch, fed-batch, continuous, perfusion) Metabolic flux analysis in both steady-state and dynamics (FBA, D-FBA) 13C metabolic data generation and analysis to validate fluxes in metabolic models. Setting up protocols and training other personnel to the highest standards Coordinating the work undertaken by QMCM with CfB and others Preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication Candidates should have a PhD degree in biotechnology or a similar degree. The ideal candidates will have: Experience with different bioreactors platform at different scales: ambr, DASGIP, Biostat Knowledge of analytical equipment for cell culture/fermentation: HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ELISA, etc. Experimental design using mammalian cells, although other organisms as E. coli and yeast are valuable. Experience in computational metabolic modeling in steady-state (FBA) and Dynamic-FBA Capable of working on their own initiative when appropriate Computer proficiency (MS office) and Experience in reporting in lab notebooks and/or LIMS systems.
