Professor in Molecular Pathology 35% at University of Helsinki

A new opening professor position in life sciences is available at University of Helsinki, Finland. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before July 04, 2019.

The Faculty of Medicine promotes scientific research of a high standard and is responsible for providing research-based undergraduate and postgraduate education in medicine, dentistry, psychology and logopedics, as well as for the English-language Master's Programme in Translational Medicine. The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of a part-time (35 %)

The field of the position is molecular pathology. The position is a substitution for a fixed period from January 1, 2020 to July 31, 2023.

The professorship in Molecular Pathology is associated with the position of head of department in the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa. Those who already have a position of head of department at HUS for the above mentioned period, are eligible to apply for the professorship at the University of Helsinki.

An appointee to a professorship shall hold a doctoral degree and have top-level scholarly qualifications, experience in the supervision of scientific research, as well as the ability to provide top-level research-based teaching and to supervise theses and dissertations. In addition, the appointee shall present documentation of international cooperation in the field of research that he or she represents. Holders of professorships shall also have the skills necessary for serving as an academic leader.

When considering the applicant's qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific

publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant's participation in doctoral education. Account shall also be taken of the applicant's activity in the scientific community, success in obtaining external research funding, international research experience and international elected positions as well as leadership and interaction skills. To ensure that the applicant's ability to supervise theses and dissertations meets the requirements of the Faculty of Medicine, he or she must have completed the supervision of at least one doctoral dissertation. Professor of molecular pathology is responsible for the development of undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education in the field as well as for practical small-group and lecture-based teaching.

The professor's duties also include carrying out and supervising scientific research in the relevant field, following developments in research and participating in community relations and Finnish and international cooperation in the field. In addition, the professor's duties include other tasks assigned to the unit.

The practical experience required for the position can be demonstrated with a specialist's degree or licence in the field of Pathology.

The salary will be based on levels 8-10 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance.
