Postdoc Position in Ocean Tracers at Imperial College London

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral researcher position in oceanography at Imperial College London, UK. The initial contract for this position is two years and posible to extend. Candidates are welcome before July 07, 2019.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position within the Space and Atmospheric Physics Group of the Department of Physics.

The post holder will undertake research in ocean tracers, circulation and heat uptake. They will join the team of the TICTOC project (Transient tracer-based Investigation of Circulation and Thermal Ocean Change, The focus will be on the analysis of new ocean radiocarbon measurements performed by TICTOC and other available ocean radiocarbon data, as well as the analysis of simulations of radiocarbon in ocean models. Observed and simulated radiocarbon in the ocean will be compared to other ocean tracers such as CFCs and used to investigate ocean circulation changes and their impact on ocean heat content and sea level rise. The post holder will be based at Imperial but will work closely with team members at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton, Oxford University and the University of Exeter.

Duties and responsibilities will include data analysis and research; collaboration with other researchers at Imperial and on the TICTOC team; and publication of your results.

You will hold a PhD in Oceanography or have an equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or experience.

It is expected that you will use the position to develop your track record and research independence.

The position is available for a fixed term of up to two years. It is available to start as soon as possible.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 34,397- 37,486 per annum.
