University of Gothenburg, Sweden is inviting excellent students to apply for a master position in cognitive science. This position is available for two years in the first instance. The deadline for applying is May 27, 2019.

SI Leaders to the program Master in Communication

The department of Applied Information Technology offers education and carries out research within the areas informatics, learning, communication and cognitive science in close collaboration with the industry and public sector. Development of the individual's knowledge and ability to analyze, understand and handle the digitalization of society, different aspects of IT, interaction between people and interaction between people and technology are at focus.

The department is located at Campus Lindholmen and is a part of The IT faculty at The University of Gothenburg. We are looking for 2-6 SI Leaders to courses in the program Master in Communication.

The Master in Communication programme provides students with an advanced understanding of theories, methods and issues in the field of communication, supporting them in carrying out independent research projects as well as sharpening their practical skills as professional communicators. The three areas of specialization, intercultural communication, organizational communication and digital communication, each prepare students in diverse ways for working in today's global working environment.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an educational model based on collaborative learning. The students meet regularly in small study groups with 5 to 15 participants and are led by a former student on the course, the SI Leader, who acts as a role model and guide to the course's content, but not as a teacher.

The SI Leader's task is to help the students to sort out, and shed light on, the components of the course that are experienced as difficult, to lead exercises and moderate discussions to address and solve these difficult components. The SI Leader is to help the students find answers to their questions together and to work effectively and purposefully in the group.

Except weekly meetings with the students, the SI Leader is expected to plan, administer and prepare the meetings and participate in supervision with other SI Leaders. In order to carry out these tasks, SI Leaders take a special two-day course in SI strategies and leadership and gets support and coaching from a SI Supervisor at the department.

To be qualified for the employment you need to have passed the courses mentioned above and be fluent in English orally and written.

We are looking for persons who are independent, proactive, dedicated, trustworthy, open-minded, empathetic and analytical.

It is meritorious if you have documented experience from and/or education for other similar roles.

The position is a intermittent employment (hourly basis) when needed, placed at the Department for Applied IT. The assignment runs through the period 19th of August 2019 – 8th of November 2019.
