Postdoc Position in Nmr of Protein-rna Interactions

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position in molecular biology to join Imperial College London, UK. The deadline for applying is June 12, 2019.

We are seeking to recruit a multidisciplinary structural biologist to contribute to an ongoing project in the groups of Profs Martin Buck and Steve Matthews, Department of Life Sciences. The project focuses on the structural biology based studies of signalling for CARF domain functioning in RNA end joining. The research will incorporate a combination of biophysical, biochemical and cellular assays. The project is supported by international collaborations with structural and cell biologists.

You will be expected to take a leading role in studying protein-RNA interactions by NMR, diffraction, biophysical (ITC, SPR) and biochemical assays. You will take responsibility for reagent preparation, structural studies and mapping RNA interactions as well as play a role in electron microscopy studies with our collaborators. You will also mentor junior biochemists/structural biologists in our research team.

You will have a PhD (or equivalent) in studying protein-RNA complex by solution NMR and electron microscopy. You must have a strong research track record in studying protein-RNA complexes preferably demonstrated by publications in international journals. Experience in the design and execution of workflows for structure determination of proteins, from molecular biology/biochemical experiments (e.g. DNA cloning and mutagenesis, protein purification) to the acquisition of EM grids images to the analysis of NMR data.

You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to write clearly and succinctly for publication. You must also be able to relate well with others, form positive relationships with a wide range of people and to work as part of a team, as well as independently. The ability to develop and apply new concepts and have a creative approach to problem-solving, to set and attain research objectives in a multidisciplinary team are also essential.

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment available for up to 21 months.

Should you have any queries about the application process please contact us by email at and refer the job reference numberNAT00456.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 34,397 – 37,486 per annum.
