PhD Scholarship Opportunity Monash University Accident Research Centre Peter Vulcan Scholarship

Applications are invited for a PhD position to join Monash University. The funds for this fellowship are available for two years. The deadline to apply is May 31, 2019.

Remuneration: A Monash University Accident Research Centre Foundation Scholarship of $35,000 p.a. 2019 full-time rate (tax-free stipend) – annually indexed plus allowances as per the stipend conditions.

A unique, exciting opportunity exists for an exceptionally talented candidate interested in undertaking a PhD at the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC). MUARC is Australia’s largest and most respected accident and injuryprevention research organisation. MUARC's research, consultancy, training and scientific expertise include safety in all modes of transport, in the workplace, in the community and in the home. MUARC's goal is simple but profound: to prevent injury, save lives, and build futures.

Peter Vulcan Scholarship: The Peter Vulcan Scholarship is named after one of the most distinguished road safety scholars in Australia, with a career spanning over 40 years. Professor Vulcan AM, was Founding Director of MUARC until his retirement in 1998, which equated to 11 years of outstanding service. He was previously the Chairman of the Road Safety and Traffic Authority, Commonwealth Department of Transport.

The scholarship was established in 2001 and was first awarded to Ben Brooks, whose doctoral thesis aimed to develop an online tool to assist small businesses with Occupational Health & Safety. Dr Brooks went on to become a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Tasmania and has also held professional safety management positions in state government.

As part of the application process, potential PhD candidates are invited to submit a research proposal (approximately 1 page).

Potential PhD candidates can submit a research proposal based on their own injury prevention topic or can expand one of the PhD research proposals listed on the MUARC website. Details for writing a research proposal can be found here.
