PhD Opportunity Behaviourchange Grip at Monash University

Monash University, Australia has an opening PhD position in sustainable development. The deadline for applying is April 30, 2019.

There is growing demand worldwide for behavioural experts to conduct research and provide evidence on how government and industry organisations can influence behaviour in a way that brings about positive social, environmental and organisational change.

In order to realise the opportunities on offer, Australia needs a new cohort of PhD-qualified researchers and practitioners who are able to straddle the worlds of academia, government and industry.

Launched in 2018 by Monash University, the Behaviour Change Graduate Research Industry Partnership (GRIP) seeks to attract and develop candidates with sophisticated and adaptive research skills.

The program offers students a unique opportunity to work on real-world problems and learn from multidisciplinary experts from the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, BehaviourWorks Australia and the Faculties of Engineering, Health, Arts, Business and Economics and Design.

Seventeen candidates are already enrolled in the program. The program is now seeking a PhD candidate to work withSafer Care Victoria, the peak state authority for quality and safety improvement in healthcare, located at50 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne CBD.

Safer Care Victoria has developed a new framework that seeks to empower patients as active partners in their health care. The framework outlines five components of high-quality partnering in health care that require implementation. A high priority within this framework is the development of (behavioural) interventions to reduce variations in the healthcare experience by optimising equity and inclusion in hospital care.

The candidate will undertake a full-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by research. In their PhD, the candidate will draw on theories and methodologies from a range of disciplines, including psychology, economics, marketing, management, sociology and law.

Understanding the partner organisation is important to designing research projects that are sensitive to their needs. Therefore, the successful candidate will be expected to spend time with Safer Care Victoria throughout their candidature.

Applicants must meet Monash Scholarship eligibility for entry into the Behaviour Change GRIP. Scholarships are awarded based on an applicant's academic record, research output and prior research experience. Details of the relevant requirements areavailable here.

Applicants must hold an Australian or New Zealand bachelors degree with First Class Honours (H1) or qualifications and/or research experience deemed equivalent by the University.

If your qualifications don't meet the H1 level, your experience as a researcher could be considered equivalent. Check oureligibility equivalencies for more details.

All applicants must be able to demonstrate a capacity to carry out independent research, have adequate training and the ability to pursue the proposed course of study.

Applicants must also show excellent communication and interpersonal skills and willingness to travel and work from different locations including Clayton (Victoria) and the Melbourne CBD.

Step 2- Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, over Skype if necessary

Step 3- Application: The successful applicant will be sent an offer to apply and will be asked to complete the Monash PhD and Scholarship application process. At this point, more rigorous background checks will occur to ensure eligibility and suitability for both candidature and scholarship.
