Epsrc PhD Training Partnership PhD in Physics and Astronomy

Outstanding international students are invited to apply for a PhD scholarship in astronomy at Cardiff University. The funds for this position are available for three years. The deadline for applying is April 01, 2019.

Additional funding is available over the course of the programme and will cover costs such as research consumables, training, conferences and travel. Applicants with a Lower Second Class degree will be considered if they also have a master's degree. Applicants with a minimum Upper Second Class degree and significant relevant non-academic experience are encouraged to apply. The Doctoral Training Partnership welcomes applications from both UK and EU applicants; however, as a consequence of the EU referendum result, final award decisions will depend on the outcomes of the UK/EU negotiations. Full awards (fees plus maintenance stipend) are open to UK Nationals and EU students who can satisfy UK residency requirements. To be eligible for the full award, EU Nationals must have been in the UK for at least three years prior to the start of the course for which they are seeking funding, including for the purposes of full-time education. A small number of awards may also be made available to EU Nationals who do not meet the above residency requirement, provided that they have been ordinarily resident in the EU for at least three years prior to the start of their proposed programme of study.

Applicants should apply for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy in Physics and Astronomy with a October 2019 start date. In the research proposal section of your application, please specify the project title and supervisors of this project and copy the project description in the text box provided. In the funding section, please select “I will be applying for a scholarship / grant” and specify that you are applying for advertised funding from EPSRC DTP. Interested applicants are invited to send a CV and a personal statement to the School of Physics and Astronomy. If are applying for more than one Cardiff University project please note this in the research proposal section. We reserve the right to close applications early should sufficient applications be received.
