The Vivian A. and James L. Curtis Center for Research and Training at the University of Michigan School of Social Work is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship to begin in September 2019. We are seeking candidates whose interests include health disparities, translational research, community-based mental health research, and/or advanced research methods for implementing and evaluating interventions. The Fellowship position is for one- to two-years, with an initial one-year appointment and the option for renewal for a second year if the Fellow is making good progress towards the goals of the position.

The Vivian A. and James L. Curtis Center for Research and Training is a new multidisciplinary team of faculty members, graduate students, and community partners focused on developing and increasing access to evidence-based mental health services and resources for traditionally underserved populations. We aim to provide strategic research and career planning and support to a Fellow who is dedicated to bringing to light and ameliorating health-related and social disparities that are experienced by underserved communities. Our research and training program builds on the interdisciplinary strength of the resource-rich, research-focused environment at the School of Social Work and at the University of Michigan more generally.

This position offers a stipend, health insurance benefits, and funds for travel and professional development.

The postdoctoral fellow will be mentored by multiple faculty members at the University of Michigan, but will work primarily with Dr. Daphne C. Watkins and the Young Black Men, Masculinities, and Mental Health (YBMen) Projectteam. This work will include developing and disseminating scholarship and technology-based psycho-education that enhances mental health outcomes for underserved males. We are looking for a candidate who is interested in one or more of the following topics: Boys and men of color; mental health; community-grounded interventions; social determinants of health; health equity; behavioral interventions; and quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be involved in intervention and implementation research while also developing their own independent research agenda. In addition to training in community-based intervention research using technology, Fellows will engage in professional development, and receive training and mentorship in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research; manuscript development; and grant writing (e.g., NIH, private foundations, etc.).
