Postdoc Postdoc Position Laboratory for Development and Evolution

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral associate position in developmental biology to join University of Cambridge. This fellowship is last for two years and posible to extend. Potential candidates should apply before March 10, 2019.

A post-doctoral Research Associate position in the Department of Zoology, located in Central Cambridge, is available from 1st April 2019 for up to one year.

We are looking for a developmental biologist/geneticist to work with Professor Michael Akam on a BBSRC funded project investigating the mechanisms of segmentation in Drosophila and other arthropods, in collaboration with Erik Clark (Harvard) and Andrew Peel (Leeds).

Applicants will need a PhD in developmental biology, genetics or a closely related subject; they will have experience of using genetic constructs or other gene manipulation techniques in Drosophila or other arthropods, of working with embryos and of confocal microscopy. Experience in live imaging and/or image analysis would be desirable. They will be able to organise time, plan ahead to work effectively and independently; have good data handling and analysis skills, and good communication skills (written and oral); and proven ability work in a team. Desirable characteristics are a background knowledge (e.g. from degree courses) of evolutionary biology, systems biology or the mechanisms of segmentation.

Duties will include: – Maintaining Drosophila stocks and carrying out crosses and gene manipulations in Drosophila and other arthropods to analyse segmentation gene function;
