Postdoc Position in Metallic Anodes for Rechargeable Batteries

Applicants are invited to apply for a postdoctoral scholar position in civil engineering at Uppsala University, Sweden. Citizens of any country are eligible to apply before the deadline: February 28, 2019.

The Department of Chemistry – ngstrm laboratory conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 200 employees and has a turnover of just over 200 million SEK. At the department’s six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering and civil engineering programs and master’s programs.

Subject description:The primary focus of the project will be on characterization of metallic anodes such as lithium or magnesium metal in rechargeable batteries. Electrochemical measurements and surface analysis will be used to understand reactions of metallic anodes in non-aqueous electrolytes. The ultimate aim of this project is to take next steps in the development of metallic anodes for rechargeable batteries.

Work duties: The project will be carried out in Uppsala University and in a collaboration with european partners in an EU funded project. The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Different electrochemical measurements will be used to evaluate performance of metallic anodes. Surface analysis like x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and infrared spectroscopy (IR) will be used to characterize surface composition of metallic anodes in non-aqueous electrolytes.Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours.

Requirements: For employment as postdoc, the applicant should have a PhD exam or an international equivalent within the field of chemistry or engineering or physics, or other for the position relevant fields, within a maximum of three (3) years before the final application date. During certain circumstances, an earlier PhD can be acceptable. Certain circumstances include leave due to illness, maternity leave, in trade unions, etc.
