Postdoc Position at University of Cambridge

A new opening postdoctoral researcher position in bioinformatics is available at University of Cambridge, UK. This position is available for 3 years in the first instance. Applications are invited up to March 07, 2019.

A post-doctoral position is available to apply the spatial proteomics method hyperLOPIT to Plasmodium parasites. Plasmodium species are the causative agents of malaria, and this project will create cell-wide proteomic atlases of multiple different developmental stages of this important human pathogen, including mosquito stages involved in disease transmission. It will provide broad insight into these cells, their adaptions as parasites and how they differentiate during their infection cycles.

This project will be based in the Waller laboratory at the University of Cambridge, Department of Biochemistry (central Cambridge), and is part of a collaboration with Kathryn Lilley (Biochemistry, Cambridge); Julian Rayner and Marcus Lee (Wellcome Sanger Institute); and Oliver Billker (Umea University, Sweden).

Candidates should have a PhD and strong experience in biochemistry, proteomics and bioinformatics. They should have a track record of publishing high quality research. Experience with Plasmodium biology and cell fractionation is an advantage but not essential. Ability to work both as part of a team, and independently, coupled with excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills are required.

The position is available from March 2019, and is funded for 3 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure check (criminal records check).

Informal inquiries can be made by contacting Ross Waller (
