Postdoc Position at Imperial College London

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate in Transport Engineering to join the Statistical Modelling and Economics Research Group, part of the Railway and Transport Strategy Centre (RTSC) at Imperial College London. The successful applicant will join a globally recognised applied research and consultancy group, focused on public transport and aviation. We are a growing, multidisciplinary team combining people from industry, consultancy and academic backgrounds.

The RTSC’s primary activities are research and consultancy for international groups of metro, rail, light rail, bus and airport providers. Each group typically comprises of 8-20 public transport providers, who share operational data in a confidential environment facilitated by RTSC. We help many of the leaders of the world's transport providers to improve their performance, based on the identification of global best practices and using annual performance benchmarking. The activities are far reaching; recent studies have included fares and funding policies, driverless metros, whole life costs, and service planning. Our partners include over 120 public transport providers worldwide including Transport for London and the Hong Kong MTRC. We also work for international institutions including the World Bank.

The post will be full-time, fixed term for one year in the first instance.

The Research Associate in Transport Engineering will carry out leading research within the field of transport analysis and modelling, but with a focus on planning and operations of public transit rail and urban mass transit systems. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on a range of research themes related to the engineering and planning of public transit systems. Some of the research will involve statistical modelling using very large transportation datasets as well theoretical mathematical modelling work.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 – 35,061 per annum.
