Postdoc in Electrical Design and Optimization of Wind Based Hybrid Power Plants

Technical University of Denmark has an opening postdoctoral researcher position in computer science. Candidates are welcome before March 15, 2019.

The Department of Wind Energy in the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Wind Energy) is seeking a Postdoc in Optimization and Integration of Hybrid Power Plants for the Integration and Planning Section (INP). You will be part of a highly international team carrying out research in wind power integration and control, where the working language is English.

Our research is function oriented in the sense that we direct the research towards issues that are relevant for industrial development and applications, and we work in projects with system integration, control concepts for wind turbines, wind / hybrid power plants, electrical components, grid connection and large-scale wind energy power systems.

The candidate is expected to contribute to the development of DTU Wind Energy wind farm optimization tool called TopFarm. It will contribute with development and implementation of optimization methods for electrical infrastructure design and optimal component sizing in wind based hybrid power plants.

Reducing the cost of energy is the main driver of development in RES technologies today. One approach is to make better use of the electrical infrastructure, either by optimizing its sizing and layout, or by combining it with other RES like solar PV and storage. The market for wind, solar and storage based utility-scale hybrid power plant is developing all over the world. The benefit of combining different energy technologies lies in optimal utilization of electrical infrastructure to increase capacity factor and minimize cost of energy. Benefit of adding storage lies in maximizing profit from energy market by optimal shifting of energy dispatch. However, challenge lies in development of optimal siting and sizing methods, and optimal electrical infrastructure design methods.

As a postdoc, you are expected to work with optimal design of wind based hybrid power plants

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science (with knowledge in power systems / wind energy / renewable energy).
