PhD Scholarship in Cancer Pharmacology at Uppsala University

Applications are invited for a PhD position in molecular biology to join Uppsala University. Eligible candidates should submit the applications before March 12, 2019.

Growing cancer cells as 3D cultures (so-called organoids / multicellular tumor spheroids), unlike traditional 2D cultures, enables study of cell-cell interactions similar to the in vivo situation. 3D cultures also enable studies of how oxygen deficiency and nutritional deficiency affect cancer cell proliferation and can also reveal whether metabolically disturbed cells are selectively sensitive to any type of treatment. The project aims to further develop the methodology for growing cells in 3D, both in vitro and in vivo, with some focus on co-cultures (more than one cell type in the same system) and how such systems can be used to evaluate immune oncology-based therapies.

A basic degree in Biomedicine or other relevant subject area and further education in e.g. cancer biology and molecular biology is a requirement (at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 hp at advanced level), as well as a good practical touch in the laboratory and proven ability to work independently. It is also an advantage if you have practical experience in laboratory work with a focus on cancer cell lines and methods such as clonogenic assays, cell kill assays, HTS instrumentation, acoustic drug dispensation and automated microscopy. Good computer skills including MS Excel and MS Word are a requirement, and further experience is an advantage. When recruiting, great importance will be attached to personal qualities such as ability to interact and communicate. You are responsible, structured and methodical in your work. Good knowledge in both Swedish and English is a requirement.

Deadline: March 12, 2019
