Postdoc Position Energy Revolution Research Consortium

We are seeking to recruit a Research Associate to carry out, publish and communicate high-impact research work within an UKRI funded Energy Revolution Research Consortium (EnergyRev). The post holder will be based in the Grantham Institute.

EnergyRev aims to coordinate and integrate existing UK world-class knowledge, research teams and facilities to provide advice, research and innovation support to help ensure the success of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) Prospering from the Energy Revolution (PFER) programme. It is an interdisciplinary consortium comprising >20 universities, led by Professor Stephen McArthur at the University of Strathclyde. As a new and high-profile research consortium, this is an exciting opportunity to work with world class researchers and deliver important, meaningful and impactful research. This role sits within the EnergyRev work package on policy, regulatory and market enablers for local energy systems, led by Dr Jeffrey Hardy at the Grantham Institute, Imperial College London in collaboration with the universities of Birmingham, Oxford and Strathclyde.

You will research gaps, barriers and solutions within the policy, innovation, institutional and regulatory frameworks to realise the technical, economic and societal potential of the ISCF PFER smart, local energy system demonstrators. You will work with the ISCF PFER demonstrator projects as well as other demonstration and research projects. You will also work directly with decision makers in Ofgem, BEIS and in the devolved administrations. You will undertake research into UK and international policy, innovation, institutional and regulatory frameworks and deliver high impact reports and published work. This is an interdisciplinary role, entailing collaborative working with other researchers in the EnergyRev consortium, analysis of policy, regulation and innovation, technical and economic assessment of integrated energy demonstrators, and clear and impactful communication with senior decision makers.

You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in an area relevant to energy policy, innovation, institutional and regulatory frameworks.

The position is available for a fixed term period of up to 18 months starting in March 2019, with a possibility of further extension of up to 19 months, depending on funding.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range 33,380 – 35,061 per annum.
