27,146 – 47,132 plus 2,162 London Weighting Allowance per annum (Doctors in Training) Campus: Western Eye Hospital We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow who will be involved in a continuing research project as directed by Professor Francesca Cordeiro. The research project will entail project design, experimental work for a new clinical trial in addition to data analysis and reporting the results in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate will work alongside clinical and scientist colleagues in order to further the knowledge of imaging of retinal neurodegeneration and ophthalmic biomarkers.

The successful candidate would be expected to register for a higher degree. You must be able to demonstrate previous experience in ophthalmic research by way of publications, international oral and poster presentations. You must additionally show evidence of clinical research projects in the areas of retinal neurodegeneration and glaucoma. A degree in medicine (MBChB or equivalent) with full General Medical Council registration is essential. You will be at least the equivalent level of ST3 registrar in ophthalmic clinical training and have excellent clinical acumen. Having had excellent surgical experience for your level of training is also required, in order to take this out of programme opportunity. Given the spectrum of patients you will come into contact with in our trials, previous knowledge and experience of general medicine, including MRCP, is essential. Proven experience in an ophthalmic hospital setting is required, with an up-to-date GCP qualification essential. Other essential qualities required for this role are excellent inter-personal skills, proven ability to work successfully within teams, and proven track record in self-motivation and time management in order to make progress towards becoming an independent researcher. Teaching will also play a role in this appointment, therefore the successful candidate must demonstrate a formal teaching qualification and examples of feedback from previous sessions and courses they have organised.

This full-time post is full time fixed term until 31st July 2021.
