It is not true that scholarships nowadays are becoming more and more rare. In fact, that is just a rumor. Scholarships are extending to more communities and are capable of covering more diversities of students with special skills, talents or abilities. There a few necessary requirements for you to be awarded with this program. You must be a current student as a senior high school student and you must have sufficient credits to make you graduate in the current spring term.
You need not be a citizen of the United States but you have to be a current legal resident with a valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I551. Your cumulative grade point average should not go less than 3.0. You also need to be of Hispanic heritage. These are people who descended from Central America such as Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, South America, Mexico and excluding Belize, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname.
Fluency in the Spanish language is also a prerequisite to availing of the program. You also need to have a valid social security number and acceptance to any accredited college or university that is located in the US. The school, college or university must be accredited according to the standards of The Council For Higher Education Accreditation.
The deadline for the application usually falls on the month of June annually. Each potential scholar will be examined by a panel of directors that have full discretion as to who will be awarded with scholarships. The awarded scholar has the responsibility to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grad point average, continue to be a full time student and be in good standing with the college or university. If the scholar is unable to meet those responsibilities, the remaining funds will be forfeit due to failure of meeting eligibility.
